USA Stock market week ending 09/11/26

  • SPY: -0.8% — The S&P 500 posted a modest decline over the period.

  • DIA: -1.4% — The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined more than the broader market.

  • ^IXIC: -0.7% — The Nasdaq Composite edged lower, slightly outperforming the S&P 500.

  • IWM: -2.2% — Small-cap stocks were the weakest performer, falling more than 2%.

  • SPMO: -1.0% — The S&P 500 Momentum ETF declined modestly.


Market Drivers this Week (09/14/26 – 09/18/26)

  • Mon., Sept. 14: Empire State Manufacturing Index and the start of the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference. The Treasury also auctions $18B of 20-year notes.

  • Tue., Sept. 15:FOMC meeting begins; China releases August industrial production and retail sales data.

  • Wed., Sept. 16:Major market day: August retail sales and import/export prices are released at 8:30 a.m. ET, followed by the Fed rate decision at 2:00 p.m. and press conference at 2:30 p.m. The meeting includes updated economic projections.

  • Thu., Sept. 17: Philadelphia Fed manufacturing data and pending home sales provide the first major post-Fed economic readings.

  • Fri., Sept. 18: U.S. industrial production is released, providing the week’s final major read on manufacturing activity.


The CNN Fear and Greed Index ends the week at 33 Fear. The Index has shifted decisively from Greed toward Fear over the past month. After reaching 65 (Greed) on August 14, the index moved to 54 and 55 (Neutral) over the following two weeks before falling to 42 and ultimately 33 (Fear) on September 11.

The progression tells a clear story: investor sentiment has deteriorated rapidly. The index has fallen 32 points from its recent high of 65, moving from Greed to solid Fear in just four weeks.

The Quant Model Portfolios had a modest increase this past week even thou momentum stocks as tracked by the S&P 500 Momentum ETF declined modestly. Quant Weekly stay at +74%, Quant 30 rose from +66% to +68% ande Quant Legacy rose from +322% to +327%. The market remains under stress with interest rates continuing to slowly climb and the middle east war still making headlines. Short term caution is warranted.
